Ricci was the youngest of four children born to Sarah Murdoch and Ralph Ricci in Santa Monica, California. Her mother was known as a Ford Agency model in the 1960s, and later became an agent for real estate. Her father was a lawyer, who also worked as a drug counsellor, primal Scream Therapy, and fitness instructor. Ricci said she believed that her Italian roots were the result from her name. In four to five generations the Italian man and woman got married Irish women. They had their entire sons. More children were born and many Irish wives married. Ricci's family moved out of Italy and settled in Montclair, New Jersey. In Montclair, she was a student at Edgemont Elementary School and Glenfield Middle School, Montclair High School, Montclair High School, Morristown-Beard School, and Montclair High School. Later, she attended Professional Children's School in New York City.
